{"id":48368,"date":"2025-11-26T03:28:57","date_gmt":"2025-11-26T03:28:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/info.populix.co\/articles\/?p=48368"},"modified":"2025-11-26T03:28:59","modified_gmt":"2025-11-26T03:28:59","slug":"measuring-journalist-safety-and-welfare-in-indonesia-psr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/info.populix.co\/articles\/measuring-journalist-safety-and-welfare-in-indonesia-psr","title":{"rendered":"Populix Case Study: Measuring Journalist Safety and Welfare in Indonesia (PSR)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Populix partnered with the Tifa Foundation and the Safe Journalism Consortium to develop the 2024 Journalist Safety Index, a nationwide study assessing the welfare and safety of journalists in Indonesia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Supported by the Netherlands Embassy, this research provides data-driven insights to inform policy and strengthen public awareness on press freedom. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The findings have been widely shared through media coverage, academic discussions, and public forums to encourage a safer environment for Indonesian journalists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Overview<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In collaboration with the <strong>Tifa Foundation<\/strong>, Populix served as the research partner for the <strong>2024 Journalist Safety Index<\/strong>, a joint initiative under the <em>Safe Journalism Consortium<\/em> with <strong>PPMN<\/strong> and <strong>HRWG<\/strong>, supported by the <strong>Netherlands Embassy<\/strong>. This marks the second year of partnership following the successful launch of the 2023 index.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Objectives<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Assess the welfare and safety conditions of journalists across Indonesia.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Raise public and policy awareness on the need to protect journalists and uphold press freedom as core pillars of human rights and a democratic society.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Our Approach<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Populix designed and conducted a national survey involving <strong>760 active journalists<\/strong> across regions. The findings were shared through a comprehensive dissemination strategy, including public discussions, media briefings, press releases, and social media engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key Outcomes<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>50+ participants<\/strong> attended the public discussion, including representatives from the Presidential Communications Office, academics, media organizations, and other key stakeholders.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>200+ media publications<\/strong> amplified the report\u2019s findings nationwide.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>60+ UGC articles<\/strong> from academics&#8217; perspectives extending the public dialogue on journalist safety and welfare.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Client Testimonial<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFrom 2023 to 2025, Populix has served as a strategic partner to Jurnalisme Aman\u2013Tifa Foundation in developing the Journalist Safety Index. We collaborated with Populix for their extensive experience in social research, methodological expertise, and data-driven approach. Their contribution has enabled us to produce a comprehensive and credible index that reflects journalist safety across Indonesia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Populix ensured our respondents included journalists and media communities from across the country, resulting in findings that are both representative and trusted by the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Journalist Safety Index is more than a research product; it is an essential tool for journalists, media organizations, policymakers, and others concerned with press freedom, democracy, and human rights.
